Funny quote from the Firefox Team about Internet Explorer 7

I just watched this week’s edition of Diggnation, and learned something very honorable about the people working at Mozilla on the Firefox project.

Now you should know a little about Firefox. Maybe you saw my older post trying to get you to Switch to Firefox. Hopefully you have at least tried it out, and seen that there is an alternative when browsing the web.

Now Firefox was started because Internet Explorer, which everyone(over 80% of all users) used, ignored Web Standards. One of the reasons was a lack of software updates from Microsoft. . .another could be arrogance on their part as well. But whatever the reason was, I am glad some people actually did something about it.

Internet Explorer 7 is leaps and bounds better than version 6, but the changes between 5 to 6 were rather minimal. Microsoft knew if they didn’t do something in version 7, they would lose much more market share than they already have. Now let me talk about this ‘quote’ I mention in the title of this post. I tried to find the source, but was unable to find a direct link. If anyone knows the source please send that to me so I can link to it here.

Someone did an interview with the team behind Firefox. One of the questions asked was ‘Do you feel Microsoft copied things like Tabs and other features included in IE7?’

Now the Firefox Vs. IE issue has always been talked about as a ‘WAR’. There are die-hard IE fans that live and die by their browser. . .and there are also die-hard FX fans that live and die by their browser. Mention one name to the other, and you’ll hear ‘fact after fact’ why their browser is better. You would think the developers would be the same right?

The response to the question was ‘If Microsoft has actually taken notice about the lack of standards in their current browser and causes them to improve upon it more than they would have before. . .then our work is done.”

Again I do not have the direct quotes, but that is basically how it went down. In a war of Firefox Vs. Internet Explorer, this is not the type of response one would expect.
