iGoogle Homepage
Customize your homepage portal
So I have used Google as my home or start page for well over 5 years now. It loads quick, isn’t bloated with the banners or useless news or information I do not need.
I am going to assume you already have a Gmail account(if not contact me for an invite). Now go ahead and log into your Gmail account. . .from here go to the iGoogle homepage.
This will give you the default Google Homepage. The page will be filled with ‘windows/boxes’, they tend to be called ‘widgets’.
Each one will have 3 buttons on the top right of each widget. The X will remove the widget all together. The - sign will ’shrink’ the widget, similar to a minimize feature to tuck that widget out of the way, take up less space. The V(carrot) button will give you options for that specific widget. . .these are like emailing this widget to a friend, changing the widget settings, or even information about the widget.
At the top right, you should see a ‘add stuff’ link, clicking this will take you to Google’s database of widgets that you can add. Go through here and find some things you like.
If you are familiar with RSS feeds, after you click the ‘add stuff’ link click the ‘add by url’ link next to the search box. This will give you another box that you can input any RSS feed into this box, then click ‘add’.
Now we will talk about Tabs. You will probably only be given 1 tab to start off with. To the right of your tab you should see a ‘add a tab’ link. Clicking this will create another tab, in another color, and ask you for it’s name. It will ask you if you want it to automatically fill it with widgets, recommended by what you name the tab. I don’t do this, cause I already know what I want in the new tab, but you may differ. Now that you have your newly created that, add content that relates to this tab, and you will keep an orgainzed iGoogle Homepage.
Now just set this url http://www.google.com/ig to your start/home page and it will come up every time you open your browser, or press the ‘home’ button.
